Kate Tynan - Award Winning Cake Business Coach
A bit about my story…
In 2012 when I first started my cake business (Little Button Bakery) I had very little idea what I was doing. My prices were pretty much a guess, my paperwork and systems were almost non existent and I was saying yes to everything and everyone. It’s fair to say that I was ‘winging it’ quite a lot.
How did that make me feel?
I was frustrated from working long hours for very little reward, I was tired and fed up from taking hardly any time off and I was disheartened as I was saying yes to cakes that didn’t light my fire or to clients who weren’t the right fit for me. It didn’t feel like the fun and creative outlet I thought it would be. Does this sound familiar?
But then that all changed!
I knew something had to change to make my cake business dream work, so I invested a huge amount of time and money into growing my knowledge base and learning how to do things better. I made A LOT of changes over the years in my business processes, my pricing, my marketing and in my own mindset.
When I closed the cake business in 2023 (to put all of my energy into what I do now), I’d made 100’s of wedding cakes and people happily paid in excess of £1000 for my work. I‘d become one of the most renowned wedding cake designers in the North West. I was booked up at least 12 months in advance, held the number one spot on Google for multiple key searches and had won numerous awards for my work and my business. My cakes appeared in many high profile wedding blogs and magazines. I had even been on the tv, radio and in the press multiple times and I made a cake that appeared on Coronation Street!
So why did I stop making cakes?
In 2022 I started The Cake Business Club alongside my cake business as I could see so many cake businesses struggling the way I had.
No direction. No plan. Figuring everything out alone. Making lots of mistakes along the way.
I knew I had the knowledge, skills and experience to make a real difference to the industry. As well as running my own cake business, I had a teaching background prior to cakes and a previous career in business (as well as a business studies degree).
And so, The Cake Business Club was born…
A monthly business membership to support, guide, educate and encourage cake designers to grow their business to be just as amazing as their cakes.
When I launched the membership - I sold out all 50 founding member spaces in less than 24 hours (which shows how much it was needed). And I’m proud to say, a big chunk of those founders are still with me!
The Cake Business Club grew so fast, that after just 12 months, I had to make a hard decision...continue putting 50% into helping others and 50% into my own cake business - or go all in on one.
I chose The Cake Business Club because helping other cake business owners to fulful their potential gave me so much joy. It was sad to close the doors on Little Button Bakery, but it was the right decision to follow my new passion.
Since then, I’ve had worked with over 500 cake designers in the club, coached over 50 on a 1:1 basis and supported almost 10,000 more through the free masterclasses and challenges I regularly run.
